Dahon in the Desert
Martin Galabov took his Mu Uno for a spin in the deserts of Dubai and his father, Plamen Galabov, got some very nice photos of the trip. Below is Martin’s story behind this very cool photo shoot.
The first day I got on my Dahon Uno was the first time I fell in love with a bike. As the Creative Director of Virgin Megastore, Middle East, design is a big part of me. The Uno’s minimalistic style, the lightweight frame, the easy folding and unfolding is just the perfect mix. For someone living in Dubai, the Uno was my missing link between home and work. This bike almost completely sidelined my Audi TT, now jealosly parked idle at home.
The idea to get a Dahon bike came to me when I was told that Dubai Metro won’t accept bikes inside. After some research, I was able to ship the Uno from California to Dubai with an online supplier. Now I ride it for one hour daily on my way to work and back, in combination with Dubai Metro. It’s great in so many ways, but in short it just brings me a hefty portion of happiness each morning and evening. In other words, the way to grasp the Live Simply Dahon concept is to try a Dahon.
The sand dune photos were just a fun afternoon just outside Dubai. The bike was in the car and the shoot wasn’t planned, just a sudden inspiration to have some fun. Certainly, the dunes made it almost impossible to ride the bike as it was sinking in the soft sand. Only split-second moments were all we had to create the illusion of riding the bike. They were perfectly captured by my dad, Plamen Galabov, the professional photographer to whom I owe these fun pics.
Dahon is like a good therapy. Live simply!
